“ Calamity Jane ”
Legendary frontierswoman, notorious daredevil and dramatic storyteller, Calamity Jane is one of the most immediately recognisable figures of the Wild West.
Known initially from the famous 1950’s Doris Day movie-musical, the individuality and courageous misadventures of Calamity Jane have delighted audiences for years.
With a fierce disregard for gender roles and cultural limitations that put her centuries ahead of her time, Calamity wears the buckskin like no other and brings a barrelful of laughs with the dirt and grit to this classic musical.
This wonderfully iconic show is performed in May 2019 and will be directed by experienced MMDC Director Tammy Peckover (M.A.S.H., One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, I Hate Shakespeare, Months on End, Dead White Males and All 4 One).
Along with Calamity’s friends, a bunch of colourful characters including the charismatic Wild Bill Hickok, the gorgeous Katie Brown, handsome Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin and others, our magnetic, heroine tomboy with a heart of gold causes mayhem and madness at the famous Golden Garter Saloon.
Featuring some wonderfully timeless standards such as The Deadwood Stage, Just Blew In From The Windy City, Black Hills of Dakota, and Secret Love, this quality production will warm your heart and tickle your funny bone as you immerse yourself in the onstage world of the Wild West in the late 1800’s.
